The Stockholm Syndrome

Photographed By Ellinor Forje

It's interesting that we sometimes call ourselves fashion slaves and fashion victims: Yet, we faithfully (painstakingly) continue to obey and serve this master. Really, I need to ponder what creates my own madness. The conclusion; forget the fashion shows. I should be seated in an insane asylum right next to Marquis de Sade!

Also, just to spare you the question: Yes they're mine - I own a pair of handcuffs. They're for my "fashion installations". And notice, how I put those last two words within quotation marks.

Consider The Postage Stamp

Illustrations By Ellinor Forje

A few years ago someone, an enlightened one, thought of the brilliant idea of adding the fashion designs by some of Sweden's top designers, on a set of postage stamps. They were penned down, in colour, by illustrator Stina Wirsén. And did we like it? You can stamp that on a card, and post it!

These three, are my favourite pieces from the collection. The illustration in the middle is of a dress designed by Gunilla Pontén, called Bubblan. And the flamenco inspired number on top, is by Lars Wallin, just to mention the two.

I had the opportunity of interviewing Pontén at her home in Stockholm last winter. She's a remarkable lady, with a remarkable life, lived. It needs to be said that they sure don't make 'em like they use to. And yes, I'm still talking about the stamps.

Better Late Than Never

Photographed By Ellinor Forje
Today I spent the afternoon scheming through and sorting out my archive of photos taken last year; and came to discover that the pictures I snapped during the presentation of Ivana Helsinki's Spring and Summer 2011 Collection, at the New York Fashion Week last fall, had yet to see the light of day. So tahtaaaah!

Right after the Ivana Helsinki show - as if my mind hadn't been blown away already, I ran into photographer Annika Lundvall, and she introduced me to the work of Christina Strindlund, and Fräulein von Hast's SS '11 collection.

The fashion week was a riot. Naomi Campbell, put up quite a spectacular catwalk deluxe outside the D&G store on Madison Avenue. Next Fashion's Night Out, I'm going to have to figure out a way to be at two places at one and the same time. So if you're a scientist out there listening, you need to get this cloning business up to scratch, pronto! As I missed out on Robin Thicke's sultry performance over at Hugo Boss', downtown, the night Miss Campbell ran the city.

And while we're on the subject of music, Samantha Ronson, literally tore the house down with her deejaying skills, on the eve of her sister's fashion show.

Also, during the week, after exiting the Andy & Debb Showroom, I ran into a person - photographer whom I've admired for a long time. His name is Bruce Weber. He was very friendly and stopped for a chat, before making his way to the Anna Sui show.

Then there were the fashionable people, who live their lives in the fastlane, at the Zac Posen affair. One of the models on Posen's runway, had a show stopping walk, that needs to be mentioned. She was on point with the swagger.

I must add that Solange Knowles and the Simmons' girls, looked pretty rad, too. At a different show, on a different date. So did Nicole Murphy.

And just when I was about to seperate fiction from reality, Rebecca Romijn showed up in a dress, the exact same colour and texture of Mystique's skin. Like it was made of it. It was too much of a coincidence for it to slide me by.

The Strawberry Letter

Photographed By Ellinor Forje

My cousin thinks that I should change the title of this blog to Madifon By Food: Or worse (or better?), Madifon Has A Food Addiction. I guess a new year, calls for a new fashion, huh? Eh...no!

But, she has a point though. The passion I have for fashion is perhaps only rivaled by the love I have for food. And I wish I could tell you something fancy, like that I love the transformation of fresh produce into culinary delights, as an art form. But, really, it all boils down to the fact that I like to chow down, and sometimes, cook up a storm, too.

Interestingly, my friend and foodynista Pooja Dhingra, recently posted some pictures on her site, where she combines the two artistic expressions, food and fashion, so brilliantly. Ever heard of wearble macarons? I hadn't. But, I love it. It's almost more than I can chew...Or is it?
