It was my first visit to the Cannes Film Festival, an occasion I had long anticipated with a sense of wonder. The encounter itself came about quite unexpectedly, after an easy stroll along the Croisette and a leisurely dinner at the Hôtel Martinez with my kin.
For years, I had imagined that if I ever found myself face to face with Alec Baldwin, I would seize the moment with a full “30 Rock” skit, part homage, part mischief, entirely for his amusement. Even so, when the moment arrived, the performance did not.
Perhaps some lines are better left unspoken, especially in more refined company.
Still, I cannot help but think that all those hours of rehearsal in front of the mirror have, at least for now, gone to waste.
