WHERE WERE YOU BORN AND RAISED?
I was born in Palermo, Sicily and raised in Milan and New York.

WHERE DO YOU PRESENTLY LIVE?
Milan.

WHAT ARE THE BEST THINGS ABOUT YOUR CITY?
I love Italy. It’s an amazing place, so diverse, and within a few hours on a plane you can be everywhere.

WHAT IS YOUR PRESENT OCCUPATION?
I’m the Senior Photo Editor at “Vogue Italia” and “L’Uomo Vogue”, and Web Editor of Vogue.it.

WHY FASHION?
My father is a renowned photographer. I grew up in a family of artists and always loved the arts. After graduating, I moved to New York to a job at Pier 59 Studios, where I had the opportunity to work for many international fashion photographers. Five years later, I moved back to Milan, and I began my career at “Vogue Italia”.

WHAT IS YOUR EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND?
I have degree in Political Economy with specialization in Mathematics.

WHAT DO YOU LOOK FOR IN A PHOTOGRAPH?
I look for emotions, something that moves me. There has to be a vision, The picture has to be more than a mere reproduction of a reality, has to be a revelation of something else... In order for something to be considered interesting, it needs to have a “coefficient” of transformation, which is the variance between reality and the vision of reality that artistry brings with it.

WHAT IS YOUR INVOLVEMENT FROM IDEA OR INSPIRATION TO PUBLICATION?
It depends on the project. Our Editor in Chief - and great mentor - Franca Sozzani decides all of the guidelines.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE EVOLUTION OF SOCIAL MEDIA AND EVERYONE AND THEIR MOTHER ESSENTIALLY NAMING THEMSELVES (FASHION) PHOTOGRAPHER?
The Web is a great place for unknown artists to showcase their work. Like everything else also social medias produces both good and bad effects, although in my opinion the good ones outdo the bad ones. Photography is a language, and there are many illiterates around. It's like writing, almost everyone today can write, but there is a big difference between a poem and a grocery store list.

ARE SHOCK FACTORS GONE?
We don’t follow trends. A magazine should go beyond that. Especially today with the web where you have access to so many things and you are able to see immediately the fashion shows, products etc. I think fashion magazines should gofurther showing the products, they should give you a point of view. Fashion is not a frivolous thing, as Judith Thurman said “It's snobbish and provincial to dismiss fashion as mere frivolity. It occupies too great a place in the culture. It's a language, a drama, an arena. Clothes speak about power, beauty, pleasure, sex, money, class, desire, gender, age --the aspirations and desperations of millions of people. So it's a subject worthy of serious thought”.

WHAT CAN YOU REVEAL ABOUT THE PHOTO VOGUE FESTIVAL THUS FAR?
We just published an article, and the detailed program will be online soon. There will be exhibitions, talks, portfolio reviews. No press accreditation required. It’s open to everyone and held between November 22-26, 2016 in Milan. You can check our site for all details.

ANY HOBBIES AND HOW DO YOU STAY IN THE PRESENT?
I don't like the word, “hobby”. Everything in my life is centered on knowledge. That’s what attracts me, and to keep up with the long hours of my schedule I meditate every morning for half an hour before doing anything else.
